With the staggering amount of beauty products offered in this world, it can be challenging for upcoming brands to rise above the crowd. One strategy can be aggressive sales or influencer marketing. Another could be a great content strategy for your social media channels. While there are many more strategies available, we want to focus on different kinds of content you can produce for your beauty company.

1 - Application

Wow, smart! We know what you’re thinking, “These guys have cracked the code”. Well, no, we didn’t, and we know you’ve certainly thought of this before. Bear with us! We’ll get to more interesting shots later.

In our opinion, there are three types of application images necessary:

  • Some higher-quality application shots in-studio (no distractions, professionally filmed) where we focus on JUST the product and application.
  • In a location (i.e., a bathroom) UGC (user-generated content) to build trust with your viewers so not everything looks staged and produced.
  • Higher-quality application shots in a bathroom, vanity, bedroom, etc.

PRO TIP:
Make the camera your mirror to showcase your talent as naturally as possible. Nothing is worse than looking too contrived while applying the product.

2 - Educational Content

Most beauty products are made for a specific audience or purpose and contain a diversity of ingredients. People are picky about what they put on their skin and want to know what all the hype is about.

Yes, you have it all written down, but consider posting short and juicy videos about the product in addition to text. We’re talking 60 seconds or less for IG or TikTok. If you want longer-form content, you can post it on YouTube.

PRO TIP: Don’t try to squeeze all the information into one video. Just talking about one ingredient or use case can be totally fine.

3 - Texture

We’ve written a separate blog post about this (link HERE), so we‘re going to keep this short.

Show your followers what they’re going to touch once they squeeze the tube. The juicier, the better. The more unusual, the more interesting. Get super close, add some movement, and let it capture your audience.

4 - Ingredients

We LOVE ingredient shots!

Skincare and beauty products usually contain lots of natural ingredients. Take advantage of that by showcasing them in real life.

If your product contains a specific ingredient you don’t have readily available or is hard to photograph, think a little outside the box.

Vitamin C - orange

Vitamin E - avocado

Vitamin D - egg yolk

5 - Slow Motion Videos

While this is on the higher end of investment if done professionally, the new generation of phones can record video in 120fps or higher, so the sky's the limit.

Use slow motion for any of the above-mentioned content ideas. While we usually recommend filming in 24 fps (real-life speed) to convey a natural look and feel, the occasional slow-mo video will keep your viewers glued to the screen.

This was quite a bit of information to digest, so if we can help answer any of your questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
